Month-by-Month Round-up: April Edition

Ξ June 30th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Palomares Family News |

Here are the quick highlights of what happened with the family during the month of April in Headline format:

Water Heater sets itself on fire; then puts itself out.

Invasion!!! Termites’ top two meals: Wood and Money.

Holy Smokes!!! After decades of being hooked, David and Amy set down the Cigs for good.

It may not sound like much, but it was enough to keep us busy for the whole month… and then some. By the way… did I mention that Victoria and Justin got engaged?

Still Alive…

Ξ June 23rd, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Palomares Family News |

Just a note to say that this blog is still alive… I just took a small hiatus, that turned into a medium-sized hiatus, that then turned into a 2-and-a-half month hiatus….

Life just got kinda busy, I promise to update… lots of stuff to write about.

OK, the site is going through somewhat of a facelift. I grabbed a bunch of plugins late last night.(Thanks Planet3rry) And also a number of different themes… So if you are browsing the site and things look a little different from one day to the next, you haven’t gone wonky(or maybe you have), it’s just me testing some of my new toys. One of the plugins I found was AJAXed WordPress (or AWP). This will add some different web-2.0-ish things to the site…. but I’m still in the process of testing compatibility with the theme.

Speaking of which, I have a different theme up… not as “dreary” as the fog theme, but still a little dark. I also don’t like the way the style for any hyperlinks are displayed in this theme - they aren’t underlined and the color for a previously visited link is the same color as the default text. Still contemplating this… I might just bite the bullet and try to create my own whenever I get the time. However, I think I will try to get all the kinks knocked out of my current setup before I do any more theming.

What do you think? Click the comments and let me know….

Success Sunday

Success Sunday Banner

“Your life is an occasion… Rise to it!”
–Dustin Hoffman as Edward Magorium in Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

The Lil’ Sis and the Bro-in-Law have been doing this for quite some time now, and I’s thought I might join the bandwagon. We saw this movie some time last week. While the movie itself was decent, the quote immediately struck me as profound.

Site Changes

Ξ March 29th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Site Development |

I just finished upgrading to Wordpress-2.5, which was a rather large update for me. I had previously been stuck on a much older version because I really liked being able to use the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin, but the new version had some really nice features… so I took the plunge. Along with the software upgrade, I changes the default theme of the blog as well. It might take some time to get used to… and keeping the theme is completely up in the air.

So… use the comment section to tell me what you think of the changes.

Happy Birthday Wishes

Ξ March 29th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Palomares Family News |

This has been one of the craziest months in quite a while, but I wanted to take time out now to wish two of my most favorite women a very happy birthday….
First of all, my Beautiful Wife, Amy’s birthday was the 23rd - and no, I didn’t forget it… This is just the first chance I’ve had to get on the blog and post it…
Secondly, today is my favorite little sister, JenP’s birthday. If you haven’t had a chance to visit her blog, I highly recommend it. It is very good reading on a subject that really doesn’t get enough press.
Happy Birthday Amy!
Happy Birthday JenP!

Crazy Week

Ξ March 14th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Misc, Palomares Family News |

Work has me going absolutely nuts this week. There has been some sort of work-related emergency almost every day for the past week and a half! In fact, I’m at work right now babysitting helping an HP support engineer with some problems with one of our drive arrays. Not fun, let me assure you…. Especially when you know that you have to be back at work at in less than 6 hours - and then you have another scheduled maintenance period Sunday Morning. I’m just overjoyed! No, really…

I had planned on writing a line or 2 about Brett Favre’s retirement and the passing of Gary Gygax, but it’s all old news now. Not to mention that I thought that my Bro-in-Law did a pretty good job of covering both events. OK so almost everyone knows who Brett Favre is, but I think Gary Gygax flew a little more under the radar of the general public. For those of you not in the know, Gary Gygax was one of the co-creaters of a little table-top game called Dungeons & Dragons .
