Well, tomorrow is our church’s Christmas program. I haven’t participated in one of these in a good while, so I’m a little nervous. Our choir director has me singing a solo, but “It shouldn’t be too bad since you had done it before..” Yeah – back in 1997…
I used to be very critical about my performances, but I’m not as hard on myself anymore. My vocal quality, range, and breath support hit the crapper some time back and It was way past time I “faced the music.” (ugh… pun intended, but it was sooo bad!) I still love music. I just lack the time to devote to it. I resigned from a local singing group a couple of years back because I didn’t have the time to make weekly practices, do my job at work, and still be a halfway decent husband and father. I can’t say I don’t miss it, but I was missing my family more…
So now, I sing in the privacy of my own shower/car/computer room. Sometimes after five, my next-cube neighbor will strike up a song and I’ll join in. (Rusty is still an active member of Vocal Edition.) I always look forward to singing every year with my sisters at Christmas. I will really miss that this year since I’ll be staying home,. But my family has been together every Christmas Eve. This is Amy’s first chance to spend Christmas with her father in over 20 years… I have no problem taking one for the team this time.
Victoria performed at her first Christmas Concert this year. I thought they did very well. The high school chorus has a much larger group, but the volume seemed a little lacking. However, I blame this more on the A/V tech than on the chorus. The final song of the concert was the same arrangement of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” that my sisters and I performed when we were members. I am hoping that we can have a quartet singing that song next Christmas!
