Every year around this time the town of Loris, in conjunction with local sponsors, volunteers, and the American Cancer Society, hosts our local Relay for Life. I have been actively participating each year for the past 4 or 5 years now. If you haven’t heard of the RFL, it is a 12-hour event celebrating those who have survived, and honoring those who have fallen in their fight against cancer. The event includes lots of fun games and prizes, music, and rides - all designed to raise a little money for the American Cancer Society.

This year, the Relay will be held at the track at Heniford Field. The track will be lined with luminarias representing donations made in honor, or in memory of loved ones touched by cancer. These loved ones will later be announced in a very touching and awe-filled ceremony when all the lights on the field go out, and all that can be seen are the luminarias circling the track and in the bleachers spread out to spell the word HOPE.

If you know of someone who has been touched by cancer, and would like to donate to our town’s Relay in honor or memory of that person, please visit my donation page. Any amount given is truly appreciated.
