Yesterday was Victoria’s 17th birthday. It feels so strange to even type that. I swear it wasn’t too long ago that she was in 3rd grade, and now she’s a Senior in high school. I must admit that I’m having a harder time coping with it than I thought I would.

We had a small get-together of family at the house last night to celebrate, and some of her friends gave her a little surprise party Saturday evening. All-in-all, I think she enjoyed it.

I’ve always wondered how tough it was for her to have to accept me when I came into her life. And then to have two little brothers to appear almost one after the next couldn’t have been that easy either. She’s always taken it in stride, though. No matter what twist life has thrown at her, she’s been able to handle it and learn from it with much more maturity than I could have ever expected.

Now life hasn’t been all rosy, and she and I have had a tiff or two, but that is expected between father and daughter. But I couldn’t be more proud of the person she has turned out to be… nor can I take any of the credit… Amy did one helluva job raising her. She did all of the hard work. All I did was barge in and immediately inherit this wonderful little girl.

Little girl no longer… but wonderful all the same. Happy Birthday, Victoria.

All my Love,
-Dad
