Found out at work today that ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is here in Horry County. Here’s a little excerpt from the website that is covering the show while they are here:
Renee Wilson and her four grandchildren woke up today to the sound of Ty Pennington screaming into a bullhorn. As the newest family selected for an extreme home makeover by the popular reality television show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Wilsons poured out of their home in tearful disbelief.
Hakeem, Tim, RJ, and Erica Wilson, of Longs, SC, who have been living in their Grandmother’s beat up trailer, were told that Ty and the gang will build them a new home of their own in a remarkable seven days on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
The article goes on to give a summary of the family’s current plight and has a bio page of the builders who will be working on the Wilson’s new home. It also has a Google map with directions to the site of the home. The local ABC affiliate, WPDE 15, will also be providing coverage.
I decided to write a bout this for a couple of reasons. First of all, this is pretty big news for this area. The community in which the Wilson’s live is a very, very small town located between Loris(where I live) and North Myrtle Beach. Almost nothing big ever happens in Horry County on the Western side of the Intracoastal Waterway. We are usually considered the “uncivilized” part of Horry County. Maybe that’s one of the reasons the show is here…. Anyway, another reason I’m posting about this is because I really like the show. Granted, It’s a production… the show will surely be slanted to emphasize the current poor conditions of the house and show all of the great things that the cast of the show come in and do. However, I still like this show. It brings an overall message of hope and good during very uncertain times, and Lord knows, we all need a little push towards positive outlook now and again.
Lastly, this post(and the show) will also serve as a shameless plug for the company where I work. HTC, a do-it-all telephone/cable TV/internet/wireless/network infrastructure provider will be one of the sponsors and doing all of the “home integration” wiring for the house – everything from entertainment system to internet connectivity to security system.
The show is set to air March 25th.
