So Saturday, the boys and I met my Dad at one of the local cinemas to catch the matinee viewing of the latest Potter flick. Both Will and Brian had been ramping up to see this one by conducting a Potter marathon over the previous couple of days. We had to spread them out over 2 days because… well – let’s face it… 4 Potter movies back-to-back-to-back-to-back is just crazy!

Overall I would say that they did a pretty good adaptation to OOtP(Order Of the Phoenix). I knew going in that there was no way that they would be able to condense that whole book into this movie without leaving big chunks of the story out. I thought that final compilation turned out pretty well. Not to mention that the special effects during the wizarding battles were way cool. I’m guessing the 3-D version of this film is just amazing.

Anyway, after the movie, we hit the local BaM and I grabbed the final installment of the Potter series. Since it was “launch day,” I got a 40% discount and then another 10 for being a member of their book club. They also threw in a House Badge(mine was HufflePuff) and a lightning bolt tattoo. The boys also picked up 1 Spider-man(level2) and 2 Star Wars(level2 and 3) reader books, a book on Bionicles(Lego Robots), and “Bridge to Terabithia.” We watched the Terabithia movie last week and the boys were completely captivated by it.

I didn’t get a real chance to crack open “Deathly Hollows” until Sunday and then, I wasn’t able to devote much time to it until after the boys went to sleep. What I have read so far is very good. I’m actually eager to get home and read more. I hope to have it finished by either tonight or tomorrow night depending on the amount of time I can spend reading.

  1. I’ve been itching to get myself a copy of the book. So far I haven’t come across any spoliers yet, so that is good. Jen doesn’t know about The Half Blood Prince from Book 6, so I would be very tempted to clue her if I picked up Deathly Hollows.

Maybe Jen and I can see Phoenix on our date night… that would be great. Eric and Ryan aren’t into Harry Potter (yet), so no fanfare yet. Perhaps if Eric saw the Train, he’d be interested… well, at least for the train sequences of the movie.

Did you pick HufflePuff by choice or some Sorting Hat ritual?

  2. The HufflePuff badge was a ransom drawing from the dude at the counter…. of course – both boys wanted a Gryffindor badge, but I think they were given out pretty early. Anyways, no matter. Each boy was able to take home a Potter-related item and they were happy with that.

According to “early research” the Half-Blood Prince movie will be out next year, but then there will be a 2 year period(2010) before Deathly Hallows comes to the screen… plenty of time to get caught up on the books
