Hope all of you guys had a great Thanksgiving! Ours was wonderful. We had a delicious Thanksgiving Day lunch served up by my very talented wife. Every year, our Thanksgiving fixins have gotten better and better. Later, we went over to Ruby and LD’s house and had the Coat’s family Thanksgiving Dinner. Again, it was delicious as always.
Today, my mom treated our family to see “Enchanted” in the theaters. Quite a funny movie. Disney does a pretty good job of making fun of itself. All-in-all, it s was pretty good. Then my mom lost her cell…. Luckily we were able to find it. Some nice person turned it in to the ticket booth.
So, not a bad day altogether, don’t you think? I would have thought so too… until we got home and found out that my windows pc had died. I was able to get it to boot into safe mode, but nothing after that. When I try to go into normal mode, I get either a BSOD, or it freezes before the login screen ever comes up. I thought it could have been a video card issue, but I put in my handy spare, but to no avail. same BSODs. So, I’m now typing this up on my work laptop. I dunno when – or if – I will get this fixed…. Hopefully I can troubleshoot this thing and figure out how to fix it, but without any really good information from Windows, I’m really at a loss.(Another reason to switch to linux)
Sooooo… without a home PC (my linux machines are all server types without GUIs), my posting will be relegated to my breaks at work, and from this laptop, when I’m at home. Bummer….

Cool to hear that you had a great Thanksgiving! And you got to see a movie too… rock on!
Your Windows Lament sounds like a bad sector on the HDD. If windows won’t even load up in Safe Mode, then something may be up with the hard disk itself. That would also explain why it just suddenly commit hari-cari on itself. Ahhh, the delights of winders…
Yeah… not a bad Thanksgiving at all. As far as the pc is concerned…
I looked up the stop code which was not much help. The d1 stop code could be a number of things. I can get into safe mode – sometimes. I’m hedging my bets right now on bad RAM, but I won’t be able to confirm it til after Monday when I can try to borrow a stick from work… funny thin is that I can boot to an ubuntu liveCD and even mount my windows disk with no problems. I have a couple other things I will try, but right now… that’s where I am.
[...] WooHoo!!! So this weekend, I got the OK from my beautiful financial advisor to go ahead and order the parts for my new PC. Now, if you have been keeping up, my current PC of almost five years, kicked the bit bucket the day after Thanksgiving. I had been planning for a little over a year to build a new one, but with everything that has happened over the past year, there was never a good time – not to mention the incredible leap in technology that has happened in just a matter of the past few months. So, my most recent misfortune will become an early Christmas present instead! [...]
